Counting Your Parts Accurately In Heavy Capacity Weighing

What Is A Dual Range Counting Scale?

Counting Scales come in a variety of capacities, depending on the weight of your parts most of these counting scales can count large quantities of parts at a time. When you start to exceed 100 to 150 pounds most Counting Scales do not offer the capacity or resolution required for an accurate average piece weight. This is when a Dual Range Counting Scale with an optional remote output for a second scale with a larger capacity platform is needed.

How Does A Dual Range Counting Scale work?

Will use the Ohaus Ranger Count 3000 with a 5,000 pound capacity floor scale in this example. Your sample of 10, 20, 50 ect. pieces are placed on the Ranger Count 3000 or the “home scale”. You would type in how many pieces where placed on the scale and press sample. The piece quantity will be displayed in the lower window. You would then switch over to your “remote scale” or scale 2. Place your container onto the floor scale and press tare. The tare removes the weight of the container so you know exactly how many pieces are going into that container. Fill your container with your parts and the quantity will be displayed in the lower window on the Ranger Count 3000.

How To Achieve The Most Accuracy With Counting Scales?

To achieve the most accuracy from your scale system you will need to know what parts are going to be counted on this system. An example would be heavy big bolts that might weigh .25 pounds each or are they tiny washers that might weigh .0010 pounds each? This will help guide you to determine what scale capacity will work best for your sample scale (home scale). With smaller capacity Counting Scales comes with greater resolution providing a more accurate and precise piece weight. For example a 60 pound capacity Ohaus Ranger Count 3000 has a resolution of 0.002 lb. A 3 pound capacity Ohaus Ranger Count 3000 has a resolution of 0.0001 lb. For smaller parts the 3 pound capacity scale will weigh each part with more precision than the 60 pound capacity scale, in turn providing a more accurate total piece count. The sample used should be a minimum of 0.1 percent of the total scales capacity. The minimum sample quantity is 10 pieces as well. The more pieces you use in your sample provides a more accurate average piece weight, not every part is manufactured perfectly the same causing each piece to weigh differently. See our article on why scale calibration is critical for counting scales. By not having your counting scales calibrated can be affecting the profitability of your business more than you may realize.

Dual Range Counting Scales Can Be Integrated Into Your Manufacturing Process Providing Semi Manual Or Full Automation.

The Rice Lake CounterPart can be configured to fill containers by piece count and turn the machine off when that preset is met. Printers, Bar Code Scanners, and Data Logging Software can also be integrated with Counting Scale systems mentioned above.
